Unibet is a relative new bookmaker, they've buildt a reputation as a reliable and solid bookie, with a high odds scale, which is rarely slashed. . They offer singles on all games/events, and they've got a lot of events on offer. Payouts are usually on time, and the company operate with a targeted payout time of 3 days on bank wires. The biggest drawback is that you must bet in pounds sterling. No other currencies available at the moment. However, the latest news from the grapewine is that Unibet will relaunch their website in the spring 2001, with better software, and more betting possibilities. Maybe a refreshed website could be the thing, because the site is not a joy to watch, but it provides good functionality. Unibets biggest "pre" is their excellent odds scale (only between 7.5-10% profitmargin on the biggest leagues). Unibet is a highly recommendable bookmaker, and a must in your bookmaker portfolio.
Openning account
As usual with online bookmakers, this is an easy and quick procedure. You can chose your own username and password. The password can not be similar to the username. You don't need to deposit right away. You can chose between 6 languages: English ,Swedish, Italian, Finnish, Danish and German as site language. You will also receive a welcome email.
Transactions
You can deposit on the web, trough Royal Bank of Scotland, Unibet's partner for money transactions, or banks in Norway (SEB Oslo) and Sweden (Bg, Pg, SEB). You can deposit trough VISA and Mastercard, trough Royal Bank of Scotlands website (you're being redirected there). VISA and Mastercard require minimum £30, maximum £500 deposit. After the deposit you are directed back again to the Unibet site This worked very well when tested. I don't like that you can't bet in any other currencies than Pounds Sterling. Payouts are done by check, or directly to your bank account at the Unibet's partner banks. Payouts can only be requested by contacting Unibet by phone. Usually payouts take 3 days (to bank account), checks take longer. Withdrawals are free of charge if they go trough Unibets partner banks. No payouts directly to creditcard available yet. Would've been a 9 except for the fact that you can only bet in one currency (English pounds).
Navigation
No problems here. The site is framed, and all the tools you'll need for navigation you'll find in the frame to the left on the site. Easy access to your account details. Also easy to find the sports you're looking for. You can also set up your own hotlist, which gives you easy access to your favourite betting objects. No unescessary use of fancy stuff which hampers the download time. Sometimes I've experienced a somewhat slow database, but this is typically during the "hot" hours on Saturday noon, or just before the start of a midweek league round. Makes use of nice colours, but the main thing is that this site is made for betting, and nothing else. Difficult, but I land on a 7.
Graphics
No use of extra graphics. Actually, I'm struggling to find a gif nat the site, except from the frontpage ! Since this is a busy betting site, heavy graphics do not fit in anyway. I like it the way they've done this. A strong 7. Bet procedure
Easy procedure. Actually it's not nescessary to explain how you do it, because it's pretty obvious! Functional and easy for singles and doubles betting. If you want to bet using systems, there is no option for this on their webpages. You'll have to call them. Also, if you want to place bets on which you can win more than £5000, you will have to call them, as the winning limit over the internet is lower than with phone betting. Bigger stakes are accepted in the biggest leagues (Premier, Italy Serie A, etc). Singles on all events Customer service
Customer service is open every day of the week, from 10-22 CET. Phone, fax and email easy viewable on the site. The user can change some of his own details on the account section (email, password, etc). However, it's not possible to change your adress details, in case you've moved house, etc. You'll have to call or send email to do this. Accepts both internet and phone betting. During the betting procedure you can get info about the betting objects (7 last games, previous encounters, etc). Unibet offer quick payouts compared to a lot of other bookies. I've never heard anything that would act as a "burden" to this company. Friendly crew, although they are sometimes abit late to answer emails, espescially if you enquire about things that is not directly connected to an account, or a betting happening. . I end up on a 8 rating here.
Reliability
Although this is a relative "young" bookmaker, Unibet is a very solid company indeed. Licensed at Malta, and run their business from Malta, but also licensed in the UK. The company moved from England to Malta in August '99. Low taxes on Malta provides Unibet with the possibility to offer good odds to their customers, which they are also doing. Unibet is in my view a very reliable bookmaker, and the fact that I've never heard anything negative about them is ofcourse credit of the company. Difficult to chose from a strong 8, or a "thin" 9, I end up on a strong 8, mostly due to the short time this bookmaker has excisted.
Odds
Very good odds indeed. Actually, the odds scale at Unibet is one of the best in business. Between 90-92% payback to punters in the well known leagues, and down to about 85-87% on the lesser knwon leagues. Unibet are also quite early with their odds, compared to a few other bookies. The odds are rarely slashed.
Events on offer
Offer odds on almost everything you can find in sports. Even handball and table tennis ! All the usual stuff is present, soccer, hockey, basket, tennis, golf, etc. Very good.
